IELTS Academic could be the option for you if you are planning to study at a university or you want to apply for professional registration. Whether you are a doctor or an engineer or teacher, it assesses to what extent you are ready to begin studying or training in an environment where English is the language used.

IELTS General Training might be the choice for you if you’re going to an English-speaking country to undertake secondary education or are seeking work experience on a training programme. It focuses on everyday language that you might use in your workplace or in day-to-day conversations.

Remember that every organisation you are applying to sets its own IELTS requirements. They decide if they will accept Academic or General Training results and the level of English or band score that you need to demonstrate. So, before booking your test it is a good idea to contact your desired institution directly and ask which test you need to be enrolled in.
